Angers SCO vs Le Havre

Three meetings sit in the record, and between them they have produced six goals. Angers won 0-1 at Le Havre on 1 December 2024, the two drew 1-1 in Angers on 2 February 2025, and Le Havre won the reverse fixture of this season 2-1 at home on 4 January 2026, a game they led 1-0 at the interval. That is an average of two goals a meeting, with two of the three finishing under two and a half and none of them producing more than three.

It is a small sample and we will not pretend otherwise, but it is a consistent one, and it is consistent in the same direction as almost everything else on this page. Neither club has scored more than twice against the other in any of the three, and the only fixture that reached three goals was the January meeting. There is no meeting in the pack in which these two traded goals freely.

Angers finished 14th last season on 36 points, a 10-6-18 record, with 32 scored and 53 conceded for a difference of -21. Eight away goals in 14 matches is barely half a goal a game.

Recent form points the same way. Le Havre have not won in five: a 2-0 defeat at Brest, a goalless home draw with Lyon, a 3-2 loss at Paris FC, a 1-1 home draw with Auxerre on 5 April and a 1-1 draw at Nice on 12 April. Angers have taken four points from their last five, beating Nantes 0-1 away, losing 0-2 at home to Nice, losing 5-1 at Lens, drawing 0-0 at home with Lyon on 5 April and losing 2-1 at Rennes on 11 April.

The strongest factor is how these two sides' matches have actually gone. Twenty-one of Angers' 29 league games this season have finished with two goals or fewer, and 11 of their 14 at home have. Nineteen of Le Havre's 29 have. Two sides who each average well under a goal a game are meeting, and the visitors have managed eight goals in 14 away matches.

Second, the table. Angers are four points above Le Havre with five rounds still to play, and both are in the section of the table where a point is worth more than the risk of chasing a second or third goal. That is the classic setting for a cautious, low-tempo afternoon between sides who know each other well and have little to gain from an open game.

Third, the goalkeeping-and-defence split cuts both ways but not equally. Angers have conceded 15 in 14 at home, a fraction over one a game. Le Havre have conceded 24 in 14 on the road, but their attack has given them almost nothing to work with, which caps the total rather than inflating it.

This is a match between the 13th and 14th sides in the division, each averaging under a goal a game, whose three previous meetings produced six goals between them, and whose combined league record this season contains 40 games out of 58 finishing at two goals or fewer. The reasoning does not need to be more elaborate than that.

The first is our own history in this market: over 374 settled picks our over/under selections have run at −5.5%, and the 1.80 to 2.10 price band has been our second-weakest at −8.2%, so the pick sits at the awkward junction of a market and a price that have both cost us money. The second is that 1.80 is a full price for a bet the raw counts suggest lands around seven times in ten, which is either value or a warning that the market sees something the counts do not.

What beats it is an early goal. Neither of these defences is good — 39 and 37 conceded — and a side that goes behind at home with five games left and a four-point cushion to protect has to come out. Angers' 4-1 win over Nantes and their 2-5 home defeat by Marseille both show what happens when the game opens up. If this one is goalless at the interval, the bet is comfortable; if both sides have scored before the hour, it is not.
