Brentford vs Fulham

Fulham have had the better of this west London pairing lately, and goals have travelled with them. The most recent meeting came at Craven Cottage on 20 September 2025, a 3-1 Fulham win that was already 2-1 at half time. Before that the sides met at the Gtech Community Stadium on 18 May 2025 and shared five goals again, Fulham recovering from 2-1 down at the interval to win 3-2. Go back to 4 November 2024 and it is another Fulham win by the same 2-1 scoreline, and another half-time deficit turned around.

Three consecutive derbies, then, in which both clubs scored and at least three goals were shared. The pattern is not as tidy one step further back. The May 2024 fixture at the Gtech finished 0-0, and the August 2023 meeting at Craven Cottage ended 0-3 to Brentford. Two of the last five derbies produced a blank at one end, and one of those was a goalless afternoon at the very ground this match is played on. That is the honest shape of the record: a recent run of open games sitting on top of a slightly longer one that includes a clean sheet at each end.

These clubs finished last season a place and two points apart, Brentford tenth on 56 points with 66 scored and 57 conceded, Fulham eleventh on 54 with a level 54-54 record. The gap has barely moved. Brentford come into round thirty-three seventh on 47 points with a goal difference of plus four from 32 games; Fulham are twelfth on 44 with minus three from the same 32. Three points and five places, with six rounds still to play, which keeps both of them attached to the same stretch of table rather than settling into a dead rubber.

Brentford's home record reads seven wins, six draws and three defeats from 16 at the Gtech, with 28 scored and 19 conceded. The recent slice is thinner than the season figure suggests: counting a 3-0 win over Sunderland on 7 January, they have one win from their last six home matches, losing 0-2 to Nottingham Forest, drawing 1-1 with Arsenal, losing 0-2 to Brighton, then drawing 2-2 with Wolverhampton and 2-2 with Everton. In the league they are unbeaten in five, but that run contains a 4-3 win at Burnley followed by 0-0 at Bournemouth, 2-2 at home to Wolves, 0-0 at Leeds and 2-2 with Everton.

Fulham's away season has been the weaker half of their campaign: four wins, three draws and nine defeats from 16 on the road, 16 goals scored and 27 conceded. They have been kept off the scoresheet in six of those 16 trips. Their last five league matches read 2-1 at home to Tottenham, 0-1 at home to West Ham, 0-0 at Nottingham Forest, 3-1 at home to Burnley and 2-0 down at Liverpool.

The market this preview is built on is both teams to score, so the base rates matter more than anything else. In Brentford's 16 home matches, both sides have scored in ten. In Fulham's 16 away matches, both sides have scored in nine. Those are the two numbers that carry the pick, and they are healthy without being emphatic.

The counterweight is Fulham's away scoring. Sixteen goals in sixteen trips is barely one a game, and the six blanks are spread across the season rather than clustered in one bad month. Brentford have their own version of the problem at home, failing to score in four of their 16 there — a 0-1 against Manchester City, a goalless draw with Tottenham on New Year's Day, and 0-2 defeats to Forest and Brighton.

The late-season texture of both sides' matches pulls in the same unhelpful direction. Brentford have played out two goalless draws in their last five. Fulham's last five include a 0-0 and two matches in which one side failed to score. Neither club has recently been involved in the kind of loose, end-to-end fixture the market wants.

What is riding on the game is the argument on the other side. Seventh and twelfth are separated by three points with six games left, so neither side can afford to treat this as a fixture to see out, and a derby played between two clubs still chasing position is not a natural setting for containment.

The case here is narrow and worth stating plainly. Three straight meetings with goals at both ends, both scoring in ten of Brentford's home games and nine of Fulham's away games, and a table position that gives each side a reason to go after the match. That is enough to justify the selection but not enough to make it comfortable.

The price is the problem. At 1.65 the market needs to land roughly three times in five to break even, and the two base rates above sit almost exactly on that line rather than clearly above it. Both teams to score is also the weakest market in our published record — a 50 per cent strike rate and the worst return of the five we run — so a thin edge in that market deserves less benefit of the doubt, not more.

Taking all of it together, we are backing Both Teams To Score (Yes) at 1.65 with medium confidence. It is a pick made on the head-to-head and the home-and-away splits rather than on any conviction that this will be a loose game.

The thing most likely to beat it is Fulham's travelling record. Six blanks in sixteen away matches is a real rate, and a Brentford win to nil is the obvious shape in which this selection fails. The second danger is the Gtech reprising its last derby, which finished goalless and would settle this at half the goals required.
