Eintracht Frankfurt vs FC Augsburg
Our record: Eintracht Frankfurt · FC Augsburg
Pre-Match Analysis
Head-to-Head
Neither meeting last season produced a winner from the visiting side, and neither produced many goals. Frankfurt won 1-0 at home on 13 December 2025. The return in Augsburg on 25 April 2026 finished 1-1. Three goals across the pair, four points to Frankfurt, two to Augsburg, and not a single margin wider than one.
That is a striking record given what these two clubs did against everybody else. Frankfurt's matches last season averaged well over three goals; Augsburg's averaged more than three as well. Put them together and the total collapsed to three across one hundred and eighty minutes. Two open, leaky teams somehow producing the tightest fixture on either of their calendars is the kind of pattern that deserves respect even when the sample is only two matches.
For our purposes the important line is simpler. Augsburg have not beaten Frankfurt in either of the last two attempts, and the one played at this ground finished with a clean sheet for the hosts. That is a narrow but real edge, and it is the outcome our selection is built around: Frankfurt not losing, rather than Frankfurt winning by a margin the head-to-head gives us no reason to expect.
Form Guide
Frankfurt finished 2025/26 eighth on 44 points from eleven wins, eleven draws and twelve defeats, 61:65. That goal record is the whole story of their season. Sixty-one scored was among the better tallies in the division; sixty-five conceded was worse than every club above them and worse than most below. A minus-four goal difference from a top-half finish means a season of chaotic, high-scoring matches that broke roughly even.
Augsburg finished ninth on 43 points, twelve wins, seven draws and fifteen defeats, 45:61. One point behind, but by a different route: more wins, far fewer draws, sixteen fewer goals scored and four fewer conceded. Their minus-sixteen goal difference was considerably worse than Frankfurt's, and forty-five goals was one of the leaner attacking returns in the division.
This season Frankfurt have played once, drawing 3-3 away at Union Berlin on 29 August after leading 2-1 at the interval. Three goals scored on the road is a decent return; three conceded is entirely in keeping with last season. Augsburg's opening fixture does not appear in the results we hold, so we go into this with a full season of history on both clubs and current-campaign evidence on only one of them.
That is an uncomfortable position to write from, and it is reflected in the confidence rating rather than hidden.
Key Factors
The first factor is home advantage in a fixture between two clubs separated by a single point. Forty-four against forty-three is as close as a league table gets, so the venue is the tiebreaker, and Frankfurt won the equivalent match at this ground last December without conceding.
The second is the goals gap. Frankfurt scored sixty-one last season, Augsburg forty-five. When two sides concede at similar rates — sixty-five and sixty-one — the one that scores sixteen more is the one better equipped to win a shoot-out, and Frankfurt's opening 3-3 suggests the shoot-outs have not stopped.
The third is Augsburg's record away from a settled position. Twelve wins and fifteen defeats is a volatile line for a mid-table club, and only seven draws across thirty-four matches means they rarely settle for a point. A team that goes for results loses more of them.
The fourth pulls the other way. Frankfurt conceded sixty-five goals last season, the worst figure in the top half, and opened this one by shipping three at Union Berlin. A defence in that condition can lose to anybody, and Augsburg took a point off them in April.
Our Verdict
Our pick is Double Chance 1X (Eintracht Frankfurt or Draw) at 1.32, rated medium confidence.
The argument is that Augsburg have to win this to beat us, and they have not beaten Frankfurt in either of the last two meetings — losing 1-0 at this ground and drawing 1-1 at their own. Add a sixteen-goal difference in scoring across last season, a twelve-goal difference in goal difference, and home advantage in a fixture where one point separated the clubs over thirty-four matches, and the case for the hosts avoiding defeat is a reasonable one.
We are taking double chance rather than the home win because the head-to-head evidence is emphatic on one point: this pairing does not produce comfortable results. Two meetings, three goals, no margin above one. Paying to exclude the draw in a fixture whose most recent instalment was drawn would be paying for the wrong thing.
Confidence is medium and not higher for two reasons. Frankfurt's defensive record is genuinely poor — sixty-five conceded, three more at Union Berlin on the opening weekend. And we have no current-season result for Augsburg at all, which means a quarter of the usual evidence base is missing.
The one thing that beats it is Augsburg travelling well against a defence that concedes at close to two a game. They managed twelve wins last season, and Frankfurt have already shown they cannot keep a clean sheet.
