Girona vs Mallorca

Five recent league meetings, and both teams found the net in three of them. The wildest was at Montilivi on 23 September 2023, a 5-3 to Girona that was already 4-1 by half-time. The other Girona home game in the sample went the other way entirely: 1-0 on 5 May 2025, the only goal arriving before the interval.

The three fixtures on Mallorca produced 1-0 to the hosts on 3 March 2024, 2-1 to the hosts on 14 December 2024, and 1-2 to Girona on 4 January 2026 — the meeting from earlier this season, and one Girona led at the break before holding on. So the running total across the five is sixteen goals, with three games clearing two and a half and two finishing 1-0.

For a bet on both teams scoring, that record is encouraging without being conclusive. Three from five is a rate the price does not quite cover, and the two exceptions were both games where one side was shut out completely. What the sample does say is that the three games in which both sides scored finished 5-3, 2-1 and 1-2, so when this fixture has produced goals at both ends it has not been by narrow margins at one of them.

Girona finished last season seventeenth on 41 points, having conceded 60 goals in 38 games. Mallorca were tenth on 48, with the more conservative profile: 35 scored, 44 conceded. A year on, both are in the lower reaches again.

Thirty-three games into this campaign Girona are fifteenth on 38 points at minus fourteen; Mallorca are seventeenth on 35 at minus ten. Three points and two places separate them with five rounds remaining, which puts this in the category of fixture where the table itself is the story.

The venue splits point in opposite directions and both help the selection. Girona at Montilivi have won six, drawn four and lost six from sixteen, scoring nineteen and conceding 24. They have scored in twelve of those sixteen and kept five clean sheets; both teams scored in eight of the sixteen, and nine went over two and a half goals. Mallorca away have won once in sixteen — a 1-3 at Sevilla on 18 October — drawn three and lost twelve, scoring fourteen and conceding 31. Six points on the road is the lowest total in the division. Crucially for this bet, they have kept exactly one away clean sheet all season, the goalless draw at Oviedo on 5 December, and have conceded in fifteen of sixteen trips.

Form arriving is patchy on both sides. Girona beat Villarreal 1-0 at home on 6 April and drew 1-1 at Real Madrid on 10 April, then lost 2-3 at home to Betis on 21 April and 2-1 at Valencia on 25 April. Mallorca beat Real Madrid 2-1 and Rayo 3-0 in early April at their own ground, drew 1-1 with Valencia there on 21 April, and lost 2-1 at Alavés on 25 April. Both come in on the back of a defeat, and both have six days between games.

The first is Mallorca's inability to keep the ball out of their net away from home. Fourteen goals conceded in their last six away games and only one clean sheet in sixteen is the single strongest number on this page, and it covers half of what the selection needs.

The second is the weaker half. Mallorca have failed to score in six of sixteen away games, including three times by three clear goals, and Girona have five home clean sheets. Neither of those is a small caveat, and together they are the reason this is not a confident bet.

The third is what the fixture means. Both clubs are in the part of the table where the arithmetic is uncomfortable, and with five games left neither can afford to sit on a point. That argues for open football in the last half-hour whatever the score, which is the scenario a both-teams-score bet wants.

The fourth is the goals profile in isolation. Nine of sixteen at Montilivi have gone over two and a half; twelve of sixteen of Mallorca's away games have. Two leaky teams with negative goal differences meeting late in a season is not a fixture that usually stays at 0-0.

The fifth is the counter-argument. Girona have been shut out four times at home and Mallorca have been shut out six times away. Both of these are teams that go missing in front of goal for whole afternoons, and a 1-0 either way is a perfectly ordinary outcome here — it has already happened twice in the last five meetings.

Strip it down and the bet rests on Mallorca's away defence, which has conceded in fifteen of sixteen, and on the tail of this fixture's history, where the goals have arrived in clusters. Both teams are in the bottom third, both have conceded more than they have scored, and neither can sensibly close a game down with five rounds to play.

The doubts are real and they belong in the open. Both teams have scored in only half of Girona's home games this season, which is under the roughly 59 per cent that 1.70 needs to break even, and both-teams-score is the weakest market on our own record. Mallorca not scoring is the likeliest way this fails, and they have already failed to score in six away trips.
