Levante UD vs Athletic Club

Our record: Levante UD · Athletic Club

Pre-Match Analysis

Head-to-Head

Two meetings last season, and Athletic Club won both. Levante UD lost 0-2 at home on 29 November 2025, a match already 2-0 at the interval, and lost 4-2 at Athletic on 8 February 2026, trailing 2-0 at the break there as well. Six goals for the visitors across the pair, two against, and in neither game did Levante hold a lead at any stage the record shows.

That is a small sample and we will not overstate it — two matches between squads that have since been through a transfer window prove nothing on their own. But it is the only direct evidence available, it points one way, and the way it points is the same direction as most of what follows. Note the shape of both games in particular: Athletic were two clear by half time on each occasion, which is not the pattern of a side scraping through a fixture it fears.

Form Guide

Athletic finished twelfth last season on 45 points, with 13 wins, six draws and 19 defeats, 43 goals scored and 58 conceded. Levante finished eighteenth on 42 points: 11 wins, nine draws, 18 defeats, 47 scored and 61 conceded. Three points and one goal of difference separated them across an entire season, one of them ninth from the bottom and the other third from the bottom. On the league table alone this fixture has no favourite, which is why the head-to-head carries more weight here than it usually would.

Levante's start reads as three contradictory results rather than a trend. They lost 3-0 at RCD Espanyol de Barcelona on 16 August, drew 0-0 at CA Osasuna on 24 August, then beat Real Betis Balompié 5-2 at home on 29 August. Four points, a level goal difference, tenth. Three matchdays is not form and we are not treating it as such, but the 5-2 is worth its own line: it happened at this ground, and it was against a club that finished fifth.

Athletic have played four for six points. They lost 1-3 at home to Sevilla FC on 22 August and 2-0 at FC Barcelona on 27 August, then won 2-0 at RC Celta de Vigo on 30 August and 3-0 at home against Club Atlético de Madrid on 5 September. Six scored, five conceded, ninth. Two defeats, then two wins without conceding, the second against the club that finished fourth. A side that has just kept consecutive clean sheets is a different proposition from the one that let in 58 goals last season, though four games is far too few to say the change is real.

Key Factors

Start with the schedule, because it is the clearest asymmetry available. Levante host FC Barcelona on 13 September, three days before this kick-off. Athletic's preceding fixture is on 12 September, giving them four days. A shorter turnaround after the hardest match on the calendar is not decisive by itself, but it tells in the last half-hour of a midweek game between evenly matched clubs.

Second, venue does less work here than the standings imply. Levante's one home outing brought five goals and three points, a genuine mark in their favour. But Athletic have shown no travelling weakness: their 2-0 win came away at Celta, and their two defeats were at home to Sevilla and away at the champions. Their previous visit to Levante ended 2-0 in their favour.

Third, the table parity and the head-to-head disagree, and that is the crux of the bet. Two clubs three points apart over 38 games ought to produce a coin-flip fixture; the only two meetings we can see were both won by the same side, both by two clear goals at half time. We weight the season-long table more heavily — it is the larger sample — but we are not going to ignore the direction of the smaller one.

Fourth, and least measurable: it is matchday six, and for two clubs whose seasons will be decided in the lower half of the table, an away point in September is worth banking rather than gambling. Visiting sides in that position are usually content with the draw, and our selection is content with it too.

Our Verdict

We are taking Double Chance X2 (Athletic Club or Draw) at 1.58 with medium confidence. Athletic Club won both meetings with Levante UD last season, have won their last two matches without conceding, and took six points from four while their hosts took four from three. Against that, the clubs finished three points apart and Levante are at home. The evidence favours the visitors without settling the fixture, and a selection that also collects on the draw is the proportionate way to express that.

Our record does not flatter this market. Double chance has returned minus 3.4 percent across 76 settled picks, one of two markets that reversed on us when the numbers were recomputed at the start of September. We are not taking it because the ledger recommends it; we are taking it because a draw is a live outcome between clubs separated by three points over a full season, and paying for a straight away win at a shorter-looking price would ignore that.

One result stands against all of it, and it is the 5-2. Levante UD at home took a top-six side apart barely a fortnight ago, and a crowd that has seen that will expect the game to be attacked rather than managed. If that version turns up rather than the one shut out at Espanyol, two meetings from last season and a pair of clean sheets will not be worth much.
