Real Sociedad de Fútbol vs Rayo Vallecano de Madrid
Our record: Real Sociedad de Fútbol · Rayo Vallecano de Madrid
Pre-Match Analysis
Head-to-Head
Real Sociedad have not beaten Rayo Vallecano in four league meetings. Rayo won 2-1 at Anoeta on 18 August 2024 and 1-0 there on 5 October 2025; both games in Vallecas were drawn, 2-2 on 16 March 2025 and 3-3 on 26 April this year.
Fourteen goals in four games is 3.5 a match. Three of the four went over 2.5 and both teams scored in three; the exception was last October's 1-0, the only one of the four in which either side kept a clean sheet. Real Sociedad led at half-time in just one of those meetings, the 2-2 in March 2025, and did not win that either. On recent evidence this is not a fixture Real Sociedad control, and it is rarely a quiet one.
Form Guide
Rayo finished eighth last season on 50 points, 12-14-12, scoring 41 and conceding 44. Real Sociedad finished tenth on 46 points, level with Espanyol, at 11-13-14 with 59 scored and 61 conceded: plenty of goals at both ends.
This season Real Sociedad are fifth on 19 points from 11 games: 6-1-4, 20 scored and 20 conceded. Four straight wins from 20 September took them there, 3-2 at Valencia, 3-2 against Deportivo, 5-2 at Málaga and 2-1 against Levante, and the run ended on 1 November with a 2-1 defeat at Athletic Club. They have kept one clean sheet all season, in a 0-0 with Celta, and have led at half-time in five games and won all five. At home they are 3-1-1 with seven scored and seven conceded, the defeat a 3-0 by Atlético. Away they are 3-0-3 with 13 scored and 13 conceded, and every away game except the 1-0 defeat at Betis has had at least three goals in it.
Rayo are 14th on 12 points from ten games, the fewest played in the division: 3-3-4, 15 scored, 20 conceded. All three wins came at home, over Racing Santander (3-2), Espanyol (2-1) and Celta (3-0). Away they are 0-2-3, but they have scored in all five away games: beaten 2-1 at Sevilla, 5-2 at Barcelona and 4-1 at Real Madrid, and held 1-1 at Osasuna and Getafe. At Vallecas they are 3-1-1, the defeat a 3-0 by Elche on 24 October. Their one clean sheet was that 3-0 over Celta on 31 October. The last five read W D D L W, eight points.
Key Factors
Neither side keeps clean sheets. Real Sociedad have conceded in ten of eleven league games and Rayo in nine of ten. That is the foundation of the pick, and it is the most stable number on the page.
Real Sociedad's matches are open. Nine of their eleven have gone over 2.5 goals, including four of five at Anoeta. All six of their wins came with at least one goal conceded, and five of the six were by a single goal.
Rayo bring goals on the road. Their away results look poor, but all three defeats came at Sevilla, Barcelona and Real Madrid, and their five away games have produced 19 goals between the two sides. Seven of their ten league games have gone over 2.5.
Rayo's matches have also changed character since last season, when their 38 games produced 85 goals, about 2.2 a match. This season it is 35 goals in ten. They have led at half-time four times and won only two of those games, losing at Sevilla and drawing at Getafe, so even their good starts have not closed matches down.
The head-to-head points the same way, at 3.5 goals a game across the last four, with Rayo unbeaten in all of them.
The table gives the game an edge. Real Sociedad are four points behind Betis in fourth. Rayo are one of six clubs on 12 points, spread from 11th to 16th on goal difference, so a win would lift them clear of that group.
Our Verdict
Our pick is Over 2.5 Goals at 1.72, with high confidence.
Five lines of evidence agree. Real Sociedad de Fútbol have gone over 2.5 in nine of eleven league games and Rayo Vallecano de Madrid in seven of ten. Real Sociedad have one clean sheet all season and Rayo have one. The last four meetings averaged 3.5 goals. Add Rayo's habit of scoring away from home, in all five trips so far, and the bet does not depend on either side having an unusually good day.
Both teams to score has nearly as strong a case on these numbers, and we passed on it. It is our worst market, −21.0% over 34 settled picks, and over 2.5 also wins on a 3-0, which both teams to score does not. Over/under has been our strongest market, +10.3% over 73 picks, and the price sits in our 1.60–1.80 band at +2.9%; both samples are small enough that we read them as agreement, not as the reason.
The result to fear is the last one at Anoeta: a 1-0 in October 2025, goalless at half-time and settled by one goal after it. Real Sociedad's 0-0 with Celta shows they can be held, and Rayo's last two away games both finished 1-1.
