Deportivo Alavés 3-0 Getafe CF: Primera Division Match Report

Nothing about the first half of Deportivo Alavés 3-0 Getafe CF suggested the second. Goalless at the interval, La Liga's opening weekend then gave up three goals in forty-five minutes and a home win of a kind Alavés managed rarely last year.

The pre-match table pointed almost entirely the other way. Alavés finished 2025/26 fourteenth on 43 points with a minus-twelve goal difference, and their home record — 7-6-6, 25 scored and 25 conceded in nineteen matches — was the record of a side that made Mendizorroza awkward rather than dangerous. The date is the important context. This was the first fixture of the season, played on 15 August, and one result — however emphatic — carries no information about either club's trajectory.

The narrow reading is that the eight-point gap between seventh and fourteenth did not show up on the day, and that Alavés produced at home the kind of margin that was largely absent from their 2025/26 campaign. They scored 25 home goals in nineteen matches last season and 12 percent of that total arrived in ninety minutes.

For Getafe, a heavy away defeat is a poor opening but not a contradiction of what they are. Their seventh place was assembled from low-scoring wins and a minus-six goal difference, a method that produces occasional collapses without necessarily threatening the overall return. Judging it on one August afternoon would be premature; last season's 51 points remain the better guide.
