Our preview of this match was written on 18 October 2026 but only went live on 1 November, after the final whistle. Its pick is reviewed below as it was written, and it is left out of our win rate and bankroll.
Match Summary
Every one of Augsburg's six league matches had produced at least three goals. The seventh produced two. FC Augsburg 1-1 1. FC Union Berlin was goalless at the interval, both goals came after it, and the record does not say which side scored first.
The hosts came in tenth on eight points at plus four, with 28 goals across their six games, better than four and a half a game. Union were seventeenth on five points at minus twelve, and their defence had been the reason: seventeen conceded in the first four rounds, including 4-0 at Leverkusen and 7-0 at Bayern München.
Then it changed. A 1-0 win over Elversberg and a 0-0 with Dortmund, both in Berlin, brought Union's first two clean sheets of the season, and this was the third match running in which they conceded once or not at all. It was also their first away point and their first away goal, after those two earlier trips had ended with eleven conceded and none scored.
Augsburg remain unbeaten at home, with one win and three draws, the last three home games all level at the end. The fixture repeated itself as well. The clubs drew 1-1 in Augsburg in January too, and Union have now gone three visits there on record without losing.
What It Settled
A point each leaves both goal differences where they were: Augsburg on nine points from seven at plus four, Union on six at minus twelve. Standing still suits one of them more than the other.
For Augsburg the pace is almost exactly last season's. They finished ninth on 43 points, a shade over 1.26 a game, and nine from seven is 1.29. They conceded 61 goals in that campaign, about 1.8 a game, and thirteen in seven this season is roughly the same rate.
For Union, six points from seven is slower than last season, when they finished eleventh on 39 with 58 conceded. Their goal difference is still the worst part of the record, and nearly all of it was built in two afternoons. What the last three matches suggest is a defence that has stopped losing heavily. What they do not yet show is an attack: six goals in seven league games.
Prediction Review
Our preview's call was Over 2.5 Goals at 1.57.
The case was Augsburg's six-from-six record over the line and a Union defence with seventeen conceded in six rounds. The misjudgement was in how that seventeen was read. Eleven of those goals came in two away games at clubs the preview itself counted among the strongest in the league, and the most recent evidence, two clean sheets and one goal in Union's previous 180 minutes, pointed the other way. The preview saw that and left open whether it was a pause or a real change; the bet assumed a pause. Union's attack, five goals in six, was the other half of the problem. A side that scores that rarely cannot be relied on for its share of three goals.
Verdict: not counted. The pick would have lost, but the preview only went live after kick-off.
