Our preview of this match was written on 18 October 2026 but only went live on 1 November, after the final whistle. Its pick is reviewed below as it was written, and it is left out of our win rate and bankroll.
Match Summary
A single first-half goal settled Genoa CFC 1-0 Venezia FC. It was 1-0 at the break and nothing was added afterwards. Genoa had let in at least one goal in each of their seven league matches, so this was their first clean sheet of the season.
Both clubs started in the bottom four. Genoa were seventeenth on four points with a goal difference of minus eight; Venezia were bottom, twentieth on three, minus ten. Neither attack had much to offer: Genoa had scored five in seven matches, Venezia six. Both had also been entirely dependent on venue, Genoa taking all four of their points at home and Venezia all three of theirs. That pattern held. Venezia have now lost all four away matches, scoring three goals in them, and Genoa have two home wins.
The home side has won all three meetings on record. The two earlier ones, both in 2024/25, finished 2-0 and were goalless at half-time; this one was decided before the interval and then held. Last season's table offers only Genoa's side of the comparison, sixteenth on 41 points, because Venezia were not in Serie A.
What It Settled
Genoa move to seven points from eight matches and their goal difference to minus seven. That is still behind last season's rate, when 41 points kept them up in sixteenth, seven clear of the drop, but it narrows the gap. One goal was enough, which says as much about the opponent as about an attack that now has six in eight matches.
Venezia stay bottom on three points from eight, their goal difference now minus eleven. Thirty rounds remain, and last season Lecce survived in seventeenth on 38 points. Reaching that would take Venezia 35 points from 30 matches, well beyond the rate they have shown so far, but eight matches in, nothing at the bottom of the table is close to settled.
Prediction Review
Our preview's call was Genoa CFC Win at 2.15.
The argument was built on venue: Venezia had lost all three away matches, Genoa had taken all four of their points at home, and both earlier meetings had gone to the host. What the preview feared was Venezia repeating the shape of their 1-0 win over Napoli, a goalless first half and then a single goal. Instead Genoa scored the single goal, in the first half: the feared scenario with the roles reversed. Low confidence suited a match decided by one goal between sides with five and six goals in seven matches. Whether the Napoli win marked a turn for Venezia, as the preview wondered, one scoreless away match cannot say.
Verdict: not counted. The pick would have won, but the preview only went live after kick-off.
