Our preview of this match was written on 18 October 2026 but only went live on 1 November, after the final whistle. Its pick is reviewed below as it was written, and it is left out of our win rate and bankroll.
Match Summary
Rayo Vallecano were a goal up at half-time, just as they had been in Vallecas in January, and the match finished the way that one did: Getafe CF 1-1 Rayo Vallecano de Madrid. Five meetings on record now, seven goals between them, none reaching three, and still no Getafe win.
Getafe's home pattern held too. This was their fifth home league match of the season and the fifth in which they scored exactly once: 1-0, 1-1, 1-1, 1-0 and 1-1. It was also the first time they had trailed at half-time at home, and the first time all season they took anything from a match in which they were behind at the break. The three earlier occasions, 0-1 at Osasuna, 0-1 at Betis and 0-3 at Barcelona, brought no goal and no point.
The table had the clubs side by side at kick-off: Getafe fifteenth on eight points from eight with a goal difference of minus six, Rayo fourteenth on eight from seven, minus five. Rayo had not played a league match for a month, since the 1-1 at Osasuna on 19 September, and came out of the gap with the same score. Both teams have now scored in all eight of Rayo's league matches, and Rayo have led at half-time in two away games, at Sevilla in August and here, without winning either.
What It Settled
Both clubs move to nine points, Getafe from nine matches with their goal difference still minus six, Rayo from eight on minus five. Last season's final table had them a point apart, Getafe seventh on 51 and Rayo eighth on 50; they are level now, though both started the night outside the top half.
They got there by different routes. Getafe's season is an extreme version of their last: 32 goals then, the second-lowest total in the division, and five in nine matches now, every one of their nine points taken at home. Rayo drew fourteen matches last season, yet their games this season have been far more open, 29 goals across eight with both sides scoring in every one. Here the two profiles met at the one scoreline that suits both.
A quarter of the way in, a draw between clubs this evenly matched is what the numbers pointed to, and it settles nothing beyond that.
Prediction Review
Our preview's call was Under 2.5 Goals at 1.75. It carried medium confidence, and that grade was the most accurate part of the preview.
The case set Getafe's numbers, four goals in eight matches and one in each home game, and five goals in four meetings against a single opposing signal: both teams had scored in all seven of Rayo's matches. If that held, the preview said, the under would need exactly 1-1. Both sides did score, and the match stopped on that one scoreline, which is a thin margin and not proof of the reasoning. The second warning, that an early Rayo goal would open the game into a 2-1 or 1-2, half came true: Rayo scored first, before the break, and the match stayed tight anyway.
Verdict: not counted. The pick would have won, but the preview only went live after kick-off.
