Hull went into it second in the table on six points from two, having beaten Manchester United 2-0 at home and won 1-0 at Coventry. Three goals scored, none conceded, and no row in the 2025/26 Premier League table to set it against, because they were not in the division. Second place after two matches is a position, not a level.

Villa's numbers run the other way and are equally young. Beaten 4-0 at Brighton and 1-0 at home by Arsenal, they arrived with no points, no goals and five conceded from two matches.
