Post-Match Analysis

Our preview of this match was written on 18 October 2026 but only went live on 1 November, after the final whistle. Its pick is reviewed below as it was written, and it is left out of our win rate and bankroll.

Match Summary

Goalless at half-time on a Monday evening in Paris, it finished Paris Saint-Germain FC 2-0 Olympique Lyonnais, so both goals came after the interval. Lyon, who had scored in all four previous meetings on record, did not score at all.

The two clubs were level before kick-off, fourteen points each from seven matches, with Lyon fourth on a goal difference of plus eight and PSG fifth on plus five. PSG's fifth place was a matter of the calendar: their previous league match had been on 17 October, and sixteen clubs had played again since.

For PSG it was a first home clean sheet of the season at the third attempt: Monaco had won 2-1 there in September and Le Mans had scored in a 3-1. Their only other clean sheet came in the 1-0 at Brest. For Lyon it was the second blank of the season, after the 0-0 at Paris FC, and both have come on the road. Away from home they have now scored three and conceded four in four matches, and only one of the four has gone past two goals in total.

The head-to-head turns with it. The four previous meetings had averaged more than four goals and Lyon had scored in every one, including a 2-1 win at the Parc des Princes in April. This was the first of the five to finish with fewer than three goals.

What It Settled

Seventeen points from eight puts PSG three clear of Lyon, who stay on fourteen with a goal difference of plus six. Measured against last season, both clubs are close to where they were. The champions took 76 points from 34 matches, about 2.2 a game, and are at just over 2.1. Lyon's fourth place came from 60 points, about 1.76 a game, and they are at 1.75.

The defending has shifted more than the points. PSG conceded 29 league goals in the whole of 2025/26, under one a match, and have conceded nine in eight. Lyon's defence, seven conceded, is still the better of the two, and here it held through a goalless first half before giving way.

Eight matches is not a title race. It is enough to say both clubs have started at roughly last season's level, and no more.

Prediction Review

Our preview's call was Over 2.5 Goals at 1.62. The medium-confidence case rested on PSG matches clearing the line six times in seven, both home games among them, and a head-to-head averaging more than four goals, in a fixture where a draw suited neither side.

What it misjudged was Lyon's defence, which it called the strongest argument against the pick and then priced past. Lyon arrived having conceded five in seven, and their three away matches had produced five goals in total. The head-to-head, as the preview itself admitted, belonged partly to squads that have since changed. And the stakes argument rested on a table eight days old, with Lyon holding a game in hand; by kick-off they had played it and the clubs were level.

Verdict: not counted. The pick would have lost, but the preview only went live after kick-off.
