Athletic Club went into this bottom of La Liga on nought points and came out of it with a two-goal away win. RC Celta de Vigo 0-2 Athletic Club, and the half-time score was already 0-2, so both goals belonged to a first half that Celta never recovered from.

The pre-match table was the sort that early-season football produces and then quietly withdraws. Athletic were twentieth with no points and a -4 difference, having lost 1-3 at home to Sevilla and 2-0 away at Barcelona — the club that had won its opening two matches and the reigning champions.
