Post-Match Analysis
Match Summary
The fixture that gave us 5-4 in May gave us RC Strasbourg Alsace 1-1 AS Monaco FC in September, and it was goalless at half-time. Both goals therefore arrived after the interval — that much the record supports, and no more. Which side went in front, when, and through whom are not things our source provides, and we are not going to fill the gap with a guess.
The table we published before kick-off had Strasbourg twelfth on three points from two matches, goal difference minus three, and Monaco top on nine from three with plus four. One result landed after that table was drawn and it was a loud one: Strasbourg won 6-2 at Troyes on 6 September, half-time 2-1 to the visitors. So the home side arrived having scored six the previous weekend and were held to one here.
Monaco came in having won all three of their opening matches — 1-0 at Le Havre, 2-0 at home to Marseille, 2-1 away at Paris Saint-Germain — with a single goal conceded across the set. They conceded a second here and still left unbeaten. Four meetings between these clubs sat on record before this one and had produced eighteen goals between them; a 0-0 in Monaco in April 2025 was the outlier, and a 1-1 now makes two tight afternoons out of five. Last season the two finished a point apart, seventh and eighth, and this is the sort of result that describes clubs that close.
What It Settled
Monaco have ten points from four matches and have conceded twice. Last season they conceded fifty-four across thirty-four, the leakiest defence in the division's top half, and their matches carried more goals than any other club's. Four matches is still four matches, but the change is no longer a three-game curiosity and it is the single most interesting thing in this part of the Ligue 1 table.
Strasbourg leave with seven points from four and a goal difference of plus one, having been beaten 4-0 and having won 6-2 inside a fortnight. That is a club whose matches are hard to price rather than a club in form, and a point against the side with the best record in the division counts for more than a scoreline of this size usually does. Nothing about a September round settles anything beyond that.
Prediction Review
Our pre-match call was Over 2.5 Goals at 1.72. It lost, and it lost to exactly the scenario we named in the preview as the one thing that beats it: the version of Monaco that had conceded once in three matches turning up again. We wrote that we were betting thirty-four matches of evidence against three, and three matches won.
The misjudgement was the confidence rating rather than the selection. Four meetings averaging four and a half goals is a genuine signal, but one of those four was a 0-0, and a defence that had just kept clean sheets at Le Havre and against Marseille was a live counter-argument we acknowledged and then rated as high confidence anyway. Two goals in ninety minutes, with none before the break, never came close.
Verdict: lost
