Rayo led at the interval and lost the match: Sevilla FC 2-1 Rayo Vallecano de Madrid turned on a second half in which the hosts scored twice, having gone in 0-1 down on the opening night of their season.

The comeback is the notable part, because the pre-match case had deliberately avoided requiring one. Two matches is not proof of it, but it is the first evidence in the right direction, and the away win at San Mamés is the more persuasive half.

Rayo's start reads one defeat and one draw, having been held 1-1 at home by Deportivo Alavés on matchday two. One point from two matches for a side that took 50 last season, with both fixtures conforming to the pattern their splits described: competitive away and unable to close it out, drawn at home where they lost only twice all year.
