Match Summary
Stade Brestois 29 1-2 OGC Nice was the second league match running in which Brest led at half-time and did not win, and the worse of the two. They led 1-0 at the interval on Friday evening and lost the second half 2-0, so Nice equalised first and went ahead after. Six days earlier Brest had led 1-0 at the break at Lille and drawn 1-1. Across the season they have now been ahead at half-time five times and lost two of those matches, the other at Auxerre in September.
The table at kick-off had Brest tenth on nine points, goal difference plus three, with Nice a point behind in thirteenth on eight, minus three. Nice had taken every one of those points at home. Their three away matches, at Paris FC, Auxerre and Lyon, had all been lost, with a single goal scored between them, so two goals and three points here is their best away result of the season by some distance.
It is also the third time this season Nice have won 2-1, after home wins over Lille and Strasbourg, and it repeats an older result: in the meetings on record, Nice had won at Brest once before, 1-0 in November 2024. Brest, for their part, have not kept a clean sheet all season.
What It Settled
Nice move to eleven points from eight and a goal difference of minus two, which is already a third of last season's total. They finished sixteenth in 2025/26 on 32 points, under one a game, with 60 goals conceded; they are now taking nearly 1.4 a game. The defensive change is the larger one: ten conceded in eight is 1.25 a match, against more than 1.7 last season.
Brest stay on nine with a goal difference of plus two, and two wins, three draws and three defeats is close to the rate that brought twelfth place and 39 points last season. Two home defeats in four is the newer detail; the only other side to win there this season is Paris Saint-Germain.
Neither club's position means much this early. The clearer point is that Nice's numbers no longer resemble last season's.
Prediction Review
Our preview's call was Stade Brestois 29 Win at 2.20. The preview gave it medium confidence and three supports: Brest's home scoring, Nice's empty away record, and a head-to-head it read as three of four meetings won by the host.
Two of those were weaker than presented. The head-to-head was misread: the hosts had won two of the four, not three, and one of the others was a 1-0 Nice win at Brest. Nice's away record had also moved before kick-off, with a goal at Lyon that the preview's figures predated. Brest's home scoring held for one half. The preview flagged Brest's habit of dropping leads, citing the 1-1 at Lille, then backed a straight win anyway, and that habit is exactly what the scoreline shows.
Verdict: not counted. The pick would have lost, but the preview only went live after kick-off.
