Pre-Match Analysis
Head-to-Head
Dortmund have made this a productive trip. In the five most recent meetings they have won three, drawn one and lost one, and both of the games played at Hoffenheim in that sample went their way: 3-1 on 29 September 2023, from 2-1 up at half-time, and 3-2 on 26 April 2025, a goal ahead at the interval and holding on. The reverse fixture this season, on 7 December 2025, finished 2-0 to Dortmund at home with the opening goal arriving before the break.
The exception is worth stating because it complicates the picture. On 25 February 2024 Hoffenheim won 3-2 in Dortmund having trailed 2-1 at half-time, and on 15 December 2024 the sides drew 1-1. So the record is not one-sided so much as it is high-variance: five meetings, eighteen goals, and three of the five finishing with four or more in them.
For a bet on the away win, the relevant part is narrow. Dortmund have twice gone to this ground in the recent sample and twice come away with three points, in both cases having led at half-time.
Form Guide
Hoffenheim's 2024/25 was close to a disaster: 15th on 32 points from 34 games, 7 wins, 11 draws, 16 defeats, 46 scored and 68 conceded. The turnaround since has been the story of their season. Twenty-nine games have produced 51 points and sixth place, from fifteen wins, six draws and eight defeats, with 57 scored and 43 conceded.
The detail that matters is where those points came from. At the PreZero Arena the record is eight wins, one draw and five defeats from fourteen — 25 points — with 29 scored and 17 conceded. Away from home they have taken 26 points from fifteen. Their home form is good but it is not the fortress the table position implies, and the five home defeats are not all to the division's best: alongside losses to Frankfurt and Bayern, they have been beaten at home by Köln, by St. Pauli and, on 4 April, by Mainz.
Their recent run is the softest part of their season. From the last five they have taken one win — 4-2 at Heidenheim on 7 March — with a 1-1 at home to Wolfsburg, a 0-5 defeat at Leipzig, that 1-2 home loss to Mainz and a 2-2 at Augsburg on 10 April.
Dortmund finished 2024/25 fourth on 57 points. They are a different proposition this season. Twenty-nine games have brought 64 points and second place, nineteen wins, seven draws, three defeats, 60 scored and just 29 conceded for a goal difference of plus 31 — thirteen points and seventeen goals of difference clear of Saturday's hosts.
The away record is the number that drives this pick. In fourteen matches on the road Dortmund have won eight, drawn five and lost once, scoring 27 and conceding 15. The single away defeat came at Bayern in October. They travel here having won four of their last five, including 2-1 at Köln and 2-0 at Stuttgart, before a 0-1 home defeat to Leverkusen on 11 April.
Key Factors
The gap between the two sides is the first factor and the plainest one. Thirteen points and a goal difference gap of seventeen after 29 games each is not noise, and it is largely built on defence: 29 conceded against 43.
The away record is the second. One defeat in fourteen on the road, with 27 scored, is the profile of a team that does not need home comfort to function. Backing an away win at 2.10 normally requires a leap; here the visitors have taken 29 points from their fourteen away days.
The head-to-head is the third. Two visits to this ground in the recent sample, two Dortmund wins, both from half-time leads.
Against all of that, Hoffenheim's home record is genuinely good — eight wins in fourteen, and among them a 3-1 over Leipzig and a 1-0 over Leverkusen. A side that has beaten two of the division's better teams at this ground is not one to dismiss because of a soft month. That is the reason this is priced at 2.10 rather than shorter, and the reason it is not a high-confidence call.
The last factor is what the fixture means. Second place and sixth place both have something left to play for with five rounds to follow, so neither side has an obvious reason to hold back. In a game where both teams need points, the better team usually gets them, but there is no cushion of complacency to exploit here.
Our Verdict
The argument is quality plus road form against a home side in a poor patch. Dortmund have lost once in fourteen away matches, concede at half the rate their hosts do, and have won on both of their recent visits to this ground. Hoffenheim have taken one win from five and were beaten 0-5 at Leipzig four weeks ago.
We are backing Dortmund to win at 2.10 with medium confidence. Two things keep it at medium rather than high. First, 1X2 is a losing market on our record at minus 5.4% ROI across 374 settled picks, and a straight away win is the least forgiving version of it — a draw pays nothing. Second, Hoffenheim's eight home wins in fourteen mean this is not a mismatch. The price band is at least on our side: 2.10 and above has run at minus 0.2%, close to break-even.
The thing that beats it is a Hoffenheim home performance of the kind they produced against Leipzig and Leverkusen at this ground. They have shown twice this season that they can beat a top-four side here, and a Dortmund team coming off a home defeat is not guaranteed to arrive sharp. A draw is the likeliest way this loses, and at 2.10 we are being paid for exactly that risk.
